Putnam County, NY:
The Award Goes to Rockit
Challenge
Putnam County, located in southern New York State, is comprised of
approximately 235 square miles with more than 100,000 residents. The County
operates 16 facilities with over 700 employees and was looking to reduce costs
and increase efficiency and security for its residents through a qualified and
responsible IT services partner.
What Putnam currently had was an IT headache. Its current IT vendor was
falling short in service while ringing up excessive costs. There were holes in
network security and response time was slow. Every firewall or access change
took too long and cost too much. Clearly, it was time for a new partner.
Solution
Going up against such companies as IBM, Synergy and others, Rockit Science
Solutions was awarded a competitive contract for network management by Putnam
County.
“We selected Rockit Science for a number of reasons. They proved to be very
responsive, knowledgeable and cost effective” says Tom Lannon Sr., Director of
IT and Emergency Services for the County. “They are extremely flexible. Rockit
Science isn’t your typical rigid IT vendor. They are willing to work with us in
an open and collaborative relationship.”
In addition to providing its flagship network and security monitoring
services, RockitNet™, to Putnam County to manage critical servers, Rockit
Science is also helping design and implement a Municipal Area Network (MAN)
which will interconnect the entire County on a state-of-the-art fiber optic
backbone.
